Legacy of the Horizon

Narrative Designer / Lore Editor

Full-Time  |  Remote (US)  |  Equity + Salary Upon Revenue

The Role

420,000 words of universe exist. Eight species. Factions with histories, relationships, and territorial claims. A galaxy full of systems, planets, warp-slings, and points of interest. You help structure this into the platform — system writeups, lore popups, narration scripts, newsfeed voice, faction descriptions, and the diegetic layer that makes the galaxy feel inhabited.

What You'll Do

  • Edit and structure existing lore into platform-ready formats — system writeups, lore popups, faction entries, species profiles
  • Write diegetic content — galactic newsfeed headlines, faction bulletins, event card flavor text
  • Develop narration scripts for voice-over recordings — lore entries, module scenes, key reveals
  • Maintain canon consistency across 420,000+ words as new content is added
  • Collaborate with the founder on lore expansion and with module designers on narrative integration
  • Create the voice and tone guidelines that ensure every piece of text in the galaxy sounds like it belongs

Requirements

  • 5+ years in narrative design, game writing, lore editing, or worldbuilding
  • Shipped narrative work in games, interactive media, or fiction
  • Established-universe experience. Working within deep existing canon
  • Editorial skills. You can make someone else's prose sharper without losing their voice
  • You've read science fiction your entire life and you understand the difference between worldbuilding and storytelling

Compensation

All positions include equity in Kuykendall Industries. Salaries are TBD and will be determined based on role scope, experience, and what you bring to the table — literally and figuratively.

The Builder Clause

We don't care where you went to school. We don't care if you went to school. Our founder is self-taught, started coding at 13, and built a 602,000-line cognitive architecture and a 420,000-word universe without a CS degree or a creative writing MFA.

Meet the qualifications, or show us what you've built. Either path works. Both paths demand excellence.
