Legacy of the Horizon
Concept Artist / Visual Designer
Full-Time | Remote (US) | Equity + Salary Upon Revenue
The Role
Legacy of the Horizon has a decade of written worldbuilding. It needs a visual identity. Ships, stations, planets, factions, species, technology, architecture, UI elements, moment cards, press kit assets — you create the visual language for a universe that currently lives in text.
What You'll Do
- Develop the visual identity for Legacy of the Horizon — ships, environments, characters, species, technology, faction aesthetics
- Create concept art for key locations, factions, and narrative moments
- Design faction-specific visual languages and aesthetic systems
- Produce art for the galaxy map — node icons, region styles, overlay visuals, system portraits
- Create moment card templates, press kit assets, and marketing visuals
- Collaborate with the founder and narrative team to ensure visual consistency with existing lore
Requirements
- 5+ years in concept art, visual development, or game art
- Strong portfolio demonstrating science fiction visual design
- Visual language development. Experience developing aesthetics for fictional universes
- Translation ability. You turn written descriptions into compelling visual concepts
- Digital painting, 3D visualization, or both
- You've looked at a paragraph of worldbuilding and seen an entire civilization in your head
Compensation
All positions include equity in Kuykendall Industries. Salaries are TBD and will be determined based on role scope, experience, and what you bring to the table — literally and figuratively.
The Builder Clause
We don't care where you went to school. We don't care if you went to school. Our founder is self-taught, started coding at 13, and built a 602,000-line cognitive architecture and a 420,000-word universe without a CS degree or a creative writing MFA.
Meet the qualifications, or show us what you've built. Either path works. Both paths demand excellence.
